Just recently I saw a news report that some schools in AL are actually holding students back a grade (3rd) if they don’t meet certain literacy criteria to advance.
Teachers and parents are doing a great job, but some students need a little extra help. The school year goes so fast and it can be hard to catch up even in the best of circumstances.

It is very important to me that students feel comfortable enough to be their true selves, to not be afraid to talk about sensitive subjects or be insecure about their writing skills. I don’t expect all students to love writing, but I do hope to ease their fears, guide them through the process, and empower them to feel they can tackle even the most daunting of writing assignments.”
